So you’re going to Puerto Rico and looking for activities? I have you sorted!

I’ve been there numerous times, and I continue to think that Puerto Rico is an amazing travel spot for everyone, particularly for US Citizens. When individuals inquire about destinations they can visit WITHOUT a passport, I consistently suggest this Caribbean island.

Inhabited for centuries by indigenous groups, Puerto Rico was taken by the Spanish Crown in 1493 following Christopher COLUMBUS’ second expedition to the Americas. In 1898, following 400 years of colonial domination that nearly wiped out the native population and brought in African slave labor, Puerto Rico was transferred to the US due to the Spanish-American War. In 1917, US citizenship was conferred upon Puerto Ricans. Governors elected by popular vote have been in office since 1948. In 1952, a constitution was established that allowed for self-governance.

The most exciting aspect?. Years ago, before gaining significant international travel experience, Puerto Rico has been an obvious choice because of the easy accessibility and the chance to immerse in a new culture but not many saw this.

It is suffice to say that travelling to Puerto Rico gives a wonderful experience.

Here are a few activities you can engage in joyously when you visit Puerto Rico:

Horseback Riding at Campo Rico Ranch

Race across vibrant green pastures at this renowned ranch where well-known films such as Fast & Furious were filmed. It feels like a child once more, riding through corn fields.

Culinary Journey in Old San Juan

What better way to explore a destination than through its cuisine, right? Savored your way through historic San Juan while discovering the Island’s past. Discover how to prepare Mofongo, relish some delicious Mallorca sandwiches, and indulge in the mango popsicle/paleta.

You cannot overlook Senor Paletas!

Enjoy a Rum Adventure

This is an opportunity to sample rum and enjoy cocktails in both traditional and lesser-known spots across old San Juan during a cocktail tour. If you’re a fan of an excellent cocktail, this is the one! If you plan to visit the Bacardi Factory, make sure to prepare in advance or you miss the fun.

Explore Islands by Catamaran Hopping

Both Culebra and Icacos are amazing Islands. In my opinion, I favor Icacos! Nonetheless, each island is stunning and deserves a trip of discovery. Whichever option you pick, no wrong choice because you’ll enjoy unlimited rum punch along with lunch on the boat!

Explore Cueva Ventana.

Caves in Puerto Rico

This is a vast cave located in a limestone cliff in Aricebe, Puerto Rico. The scenery is what matters, and this location is certainly less conventional!

Tour The Streets Of San Juan

Stroll through the streets of Old San Juan while enjoying traditional dishes such as Mallorca, Mofongo, Tostones, lechón a la vara, Mallorca, and Arroz con Habichuelas with each meal. Stop by Veradura, one of my favorite eateries in old San Juan.

Tune in to La Bomba Music

If you seek Afro-Puerto Rican music and culture, La Bomba music could pique your interest! Visit Terraza de Bonanza to enjoy the vibrant rhythms of La Bomba!

Attend Salsa Dancing

Salsa dancing with live music takes place at La Factoría on Monday evenings (previously recognized as the best bar globally, it features three different rooms, and the backroom hosts live Salsa on select nights). If you’re unsure how to begin, consider taking salsa classes! When in Puerto Rico, correct?

Discover El Yunque Rainforest

El Yunque Rainforest in Puerto Rico

Prepare to either soak or plunge (if you’re feeling bold) into Puerto Rico’s national rainforest. El Yunque boasts a wealth of biodiversity, and there is an abundance of waterfalls across this vast rainforest. It’s definitely worth a trip, providing you the opportunity to explore Puerto Rico’s stunning natural beauty! You can hire a car and explore the park without any charge.

If you don’t have a car, you’ll need to arrange a day tour that offers transportation. Arrive early to avoid the crowds and take the chance to do some waterfall jumping if you can!

Attend a celebration at La Placita (Plaza del Mercado)

Numerous streets filled with markets and eateries transform into bars once night falls. Tons of enjoyment you would hope to return to every evening, the top nights are Thursday and Friday.

Walk Around Santurce

The Santurce area in San Juan is nearer to the beach, vibrant street art, and delicious cuisine. Explore La Placita (where market stalls effectively turn into a block party at night), street art, and Lote 23 (a relatively new food truck park) during your time in the area.

Santurce Area in Puerto Rico

You can reserve activities through Get Your Guide, Trip Advisor, or Airbnb Experiences.

These are essential tools for reserving with local businesses through a reliable site where you can check reviews. They’re perfect for individual travelers to connect with others and socialize. If you don’t hire a car, these places will allow you to explore more of the island without increasing an Uber charge.

Paddle through the Bioluminescent Bay

Have you ever observed shimmering plankton particles illuminate the ocean at night? It’s really awesome! If you go at the appropriate time, you’ll catch the water glimmering!

More than anything, Wander the streets and talk to as many locals as possible to really get a feel for the city.

Abundant history and culture, outstanding cuisine and drinks, unspoiled beaches, towering mountains, and adventures that enrich both body and spirit — all combined in one radiant Caribbean paradise. Puerto Rico is brimming with individuals who are warm and buena gente (a Boricua term for kind and friendly). Here, you’ll experience a sense of belonging rather than being merely a guest. Uncover lively cultural encounters, a joyous celebration of life, and an enchanting beat at every turn.
