NIDO EGYPT Chapter

The majority of the Nigerian community in Egypt in the twenty-first century is composed of students, the majority of whom attend Al-Azhar University in Cairo as well as other public and private Egyptian universities. But since the Egyptian government’s “Study in Egypt” campaign, which aims to draw international students to study at Egyptian universities at the undergraduate and graduate levels, the number of Nigerian students enrolled in other higher education institutions in the nation—especially private ones—has grown. African Export Bank- Afrexim, African Development Bank, Citigroup, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and other regional and international financial institutions employ some Nigerians in the nation. Some collaborate with private companies and Egyptian establishments, while others work with multinational corporations like Shell, LaFarge Cement.

Fortune-seekers who get stuck in Egypt instead of their intended destination—Europe—make up another group of Nigerians living there. These Nigerians frequently become employees one way or another so as to have legal stay and pay for their survival. NIDO has assisted in the organization of the Nigerians in Egypt.
