Qatar: The Arabian Peninsula With The Ancient Traditions And Modern Marvels

Qatar is situated on a peninsula that protrudes into the Arabian Gulf, the State of Qatar is an autonomous and self-governing nation in the Middle East. Since gaining full independence from Britain in 1971, Qatar has been one of the major gas and oil producers worldwide.

Qatar Size

First, let’s discuss size. Qatar is not that big. The peninsula protrudes into the Arabian/Persian Gulf from Saudi Arabia. It is roughly 50 miles from east to west and maybe just 100 miles from north to south. It is approximately the same area as the United States of Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Can you imagine that?! Yet it’s the most sought-after destination by Travelers and Tourists. It is a well-known fact that 90% of the residents in Qatar are Foreigners originating from 180 different countries (this is one of the most intriguing facts).

Thus, native Qataris constitute a very small portion of the population. English is the most widely used language in Qatar, despite Arabic being the official language and being the language of many foreign residents.

Qatar Tourists, Travelers

Since the middle of the 1800s, the Al Thani family has ruled Qatar. In the last 60 years, Qatar has gone from a poor British protectorate known mostly for pearling to an autonomous state with substantial oil and natural gas earnings. Leadership changes in 1995 brought about an increasing role for Qatari leadership in the region, significant economic investment, and extensive political and media reforms.
